Level 1 - Speech 2 - The Perfect Gift

You don’t have any idea how hard I have looked for the perfect gift for you.  Nothing seemed right.  Whats the point of bringing water to the ocean or gold to the gold mine.  Everything I pick, it seems like bringing spices to the orient.  I would have given you my heart and soul, but you already have those.

Ladies and gentlemen, today we will talk about the Perfect Gift

Human beings are social animals and whatever anyone says receiving a valued beautiful gift which matches our tastes is a wonderful feeling.  That whole act of someone coming to you on your special day, smile on face handing you that lovely, wrapped box and wishing you is itself a gift.  In today’s world the size of the gift though decides the love involved.  If the gift is small…. You know as small as like this we would probably walk smaller gait and quickly hand it over with a small smile.  But something of a bigger gift… as big as this, we would walk with our head high and hand over the gift with huge, big congratulations.  That happens and that is a general thought process today.  Even with elders in marriage functions or any other functions, lists are made after the functions.  This person gave this much as the shagun and that person gave that much.  When we will go to their ceremony, we will give same as they did.  Monetary aspect has been added to the word gift.  Gift is a bigger word.

Today after spending so many years on this earth, when the number of people older than me is slowly reducing; my definition of a gift is changing at a fast rate.  I realise now that my grandparents calling me and giving me a kismi toffee on my birthday was a gift.  Now that my grandparents are not there and neither is kismi toffee, I miss both.

If you look back and really think you realise that having people who think about you, think about what to give you, worry about whether you will like it or not is also a gift on its own.  The actual physical gift is not the gift; the people who are coming to give you the gift is the actual gift life has given us. My family, the one which is always with me that is a gift I have in my life.  My friends who are my extended family are a gift.  Always with me in my hour of need… best gift ever.  My new family, this family, our toastmasters club is a gift.  I know I had to take the first step but now you guys are a family.  Different people have different definitions of a good gift or a perfect gift.  What we need to do is identify the small and big gifts in our lives.  When we can find these little gifts, our lives become simple and easy.

It took me …. Well, many years to realize that if I don’t say Me first; why would anyone else say you first.  Me taking care of myself, realizing my moods, my needs, my health, my goals come first.  This realization is the biggest gift I could ever get.  I think we all need to realise these inner gifts that life brings us.

Life’s gifts are not always positive.  The real gifts are often disguised in a cloak of our problems.  These problems are the moments which we never want to go back to but, we should still appreciate them because they are what have made us what we are today.  We all have these powerful gifts within us – our energy, our caring, our generosity and our love.  Life is a gift, and it offers us the privilege, opportunity, and responsibility to give something back.  So, live the life, enjoy the privilege, grab the opportunity and be grateful of the gifts that you receive.
